Our verdict The most configurable all-rounder for service businesses, with a useful free plan, SMS and WhatsApp reminders, point of sale and a HIPAA option. The 'custom features' model takes some working out.

Our take

SimplyBook.me suits salons, clinics, tutors and fitness businesses that want one booking system to do a lot. Beyond online booking it offers point of sale, SMS and WhatsApp reminders, and a long menu of optional 'custom features' you switch on as needed. It's an EU-based company and talks about GDPR compliance.

The free plan allows 50 bookings a month for one provider, which is enough to try it properly. Paid plans (Basic, Standard and Premium) are priced by bookings, providers and how many custom features you can enable, and that model is the main source of confusion: check the caps on the plan you're considering before you commit.

HIPAA features are available on Standard and above, and Premium adds QuickBooks and Xero. The admin area is busy, which is the cost of having so many options.
